There is a need for a STEAM program on Staten Island North Shore to help prepare middle school students for high school and beyond. Staten Island Technical High School has an 1% enrollment of African American compared to approximately 50% white students. Junior High School students are not afforded the opportunity to participate in STEAM programs to the same degree because admission criteria to these programs are based on standardized test results, as well as grade point averages, and entrance exam scores.
